My book review for November is for the book: “The Daniel Plan - 40 Days to a Healthier Life”, written by Rick Warren D.Min, Daniel Amen M.D, and Mark Hyman M.D, published by Zondervan. The book retails for about $27.99 CDN at Chapters and will be released on December 3rd, 2013. This book was another book I was able to read before the official release date! This is the second “Daniel Diet” type book I have read recently. I read The Daniel Cure last month.
I’m not a very religious person anymore and that’s why I probably didn’t really feel a “connection” with this book. The Daniel Plan was written by a pastor who saw the need for a weight loss change in his congregation. Through their own “community” they achieved their goal and also give that glory to God. Here’s where my problem is. I believe God or no God, if you put your mind to something, you are able to do it. You need to be committed to change (if you only truly want change) and it is easier with help and support from others. That being said, these type of “Daniel Diets” can be fitted to your own “community”, whether that’s a group of your girlfriends hitting a yoga or fitness class, making healthy choices at dinner with your family, etc. It was an interesting read, but in comparing both books, I prefered The Daniel Cure over this one.
Overall, I did enjoy reading this book. It has some good health related tips and is easy to understand. I give it a 4 out of 5.
