My book review for May is for the book: “The Loving Kitchen; Downright Delicious Southern Recipes to Share with Family, Friends and Neighbors”, written by LeAnn Rice, published by Thomas Nelson. The book retails for about $29.99CDN at Chapters and was released on May 9th, 2014.
I love cookbooks. I love cooking, period. So when the opportunity to review this book came out, I jumped on it. I love so many of the recipes in this book. It reminds me of good home style cooking that my Grama used to make.
Some of my absolute favorites from this book are: Pumpkin Spice Pancakes, Cranberry-Orange Muffins, Panini’s (and how to properly make one), Pan-Seared Scallops on a bed of Spinach with an Orange Butter Sauce, Pumpkin Dark Chocolate Bread Pudding with Caramel Sauce and Hummingbird Cupcakes (sans pecans as I’m allergic). Honestly there are so many good recipes in this book it was hard to narrow it down to just these few!
The recipes were very easy to understand and follow. However I though a few of the photos were not good at all. Some of the photos looked like they were taken with a cell phone which really made those dishes look a little unappetizing. I wish they would have invested in a food photographer and did them right.
Overall, I loved reading this book. It has some great recipes. This book is on my counter with my other cookbook “favourites”, and I plan to cook from it a lot. I give it a 4 out of 5.
